Death Hits Closer to Home!

Wow! 2016 was a year of a lot of passings, people dying. We must all know of some older family members in their 80s and 90s who have passed away; husbands or wives of friends no longer here; and, the daily news is filled with deaths. You would be surprised at who and the number of celebrities who passed away in 2016, like Ron Glass. We personally have lost several family members, old boyfriends and husbands of friends. It’s no wonder that going into 2017 we reflect on family and celebrity deaths in 2016.

All this gives boomers pause to consider their own mortality.

As we continue to get to the age of the ones who have already transcended, with aches and pains, focus on diet and health, and the appearance of a world seemingly out of control, we find ourselves meditating more on how we can best prepare ourselves and close family members for the ineveitable.

Checklist of things to do:

  • Do you have a will?
  • Are your taxes in order?
  • Do you have an insurance policy?
  • Do you have a burial policy?
  • Who knows all of your passwords to mobile devices?
  • What about your financial obligations?
  • Are you taking the maximum 401K percentage?
  • Have you cut back on unnecessary expenses?

Tradewinds of our Times

Yes, the are many social ills in the world, and innovative new technology being developed every day, But as a boomers from the 1950s, we see the world from a different lens than the other generations who came after. We remember growing up in a tight knit community where everybody knew your name and their neighbors. And somebodie’s mama was always looking out!  President Dwight D. Eisenhower was president when we were born. That was 1953. It’s now 2017! So, it’s no surprise that there are many who are no longer with us.

Wise Boomer Chics Aging Gracefully

The assault on Obamacare, social security, and medicare, increase in insurance premiums, bad food, dirty air quality, chemicals in animals and plants. We are looking at old and old looking white men who supposedly represent us boomers saying and doing things to undermine everything we were taught to trust and believe in, our social security!

We must be vigilant, as boomers, and pay closer attention to what is happening. This not only for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren as well. We have at least 20 more years on this planet!
