There are any number of scriptures which confirm that God wants only the best for his kids.

Jeremiah 29:11Living Bible (TLB)

11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

I read this a few days ago  as I was reflecting on plans for the future. You’ve probably had similar moments of introspection, and this may be a good  thing (depending on whether the thoughts are positive or not.) Often we spend time contemplating all of the plans that we had that didn’t materialize. We can get caught up in all of the “what if’s”. “What if I had taken that job”?  Or, ” Suppose I hadn’t gotten married when I did.” Or, “I thought that I’d be _____________ by now.”
As I said, this behavior is normal, and to some degree, acceptable.

However, sometimes the moments of introspection turn into hours, then into days, and before you know it, months (or even years) have passed.  Just so you know that I’m not reciting rhetoric that I’ve heard or read,  believe me, I have actually experienced life in the rocking chair,  moving but not going anywhere. I’ve decided that life is too short to waste even a minute looking in the rear view mirror.

So now back to the beginning of this post.  One of the reasons that I have stopped dwelling on the past is because I know what my heavenly father thinks of me. His plans for me are  GOOD and even when I go through situations that are not good, I know that it can’t be permanent. God’s word is true, and He cannot lie. It is so comforting to know that His ultimate plan is that I live the best life.  But in order to experience the good life, I must participate with Him.

How do we participate? First, we must agree with God. We do by accepting the Bible as the final authority on the issues of life. Since God does not force us to believe in Him, it is all a matter of our choice.

This being established, I’d like to share a few other scriptures which give us hope for the future.

Psalm 84:11 – No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.

Philippians 1:6- Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

Luke 12:32 –   Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Romans 8:28 –   And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose

Proverbs 3:4-5 Living Bible (TLB) 4-5 If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself.

Since I am fully persuaded that God wants good things for me, I look forward to my future with great expectation. Anything that doesn’t line up with the image that I have of myself, has to go. I won’t dwell on pass disappointments; I won’t allow thoughts of my past rob me of plans for my future. My future is bright – because my daddy said so.
